Suicidal Santas in Munich (12/15/03)

Our short stop in Munich, the heart of Bavaria, did not allow us to experience the main draws of the region: we didn't see anyone wearing Lederhosen, didn't have a chance to visit any beer halls or castles, and certainly didn't hear any oopmah bands. So if we didn't see any of those things, what did we see in Munich? Suicidal Santas of course! The Christmas preparations were in full swing at this time, and we had a chance to admire the decor which adorned the various streets and shops of the town. We saw a curious sight adorning many buildings: Santas either climbing toward some unknown destination with a bag of goodies (perhaps to reward the workers inside), or just hanging out on the ledges. We saw several that looked precariously perched on these ledges, and thought, hey: suicidal santas! So that's about all I remember about Munich, but it made a pretty strong impression...
