Stony-faced Presidents (09/06/03)
Last updated 9/28/03
After our visit to Denver, we stopped to look at the famous Mount
Rushmore national monument. For those out there who aren't aware this
monument, here's a little except from the national park service
(nps.gov) site:
Mount Rushmore
memorializes the birth, growth, preservation and development of the
United States of America. Between 1927 and 1941, Gutzon Borglum and 400
workers sculpted the 60-foot busts of Presidents George Washington,
Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln to represent
the first 150 years of American history.
It was interesting to hear how fervently Borglum had lobbied congress
for money to build the monument, so that America may have an enormous
monument to celebrate these giants among men.. or at least that's what
all of the PR at the monument claimed. Not too much more to say
about this place, other than I can now say that I've seen the
presidents up close and in person instead of just seeing the monument
on TV or something...

The presidents by themselves.... look very distinguished,
don't they?
